Sharing the Story 

Launched in the Summer of 2021, Project Illuminate was born from the idea to explore how the struggle for civil rights affected the wartime and homecoming experiences of Black Veterans. Funded through the Dialogues on the Experience of War Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the project seeks to build community amongst Black veterans in the Farmville and Richmond areas of Virginia as they share their untold stories of their experiences with patriotism, racism, and homecoming after war.
